“The jury has made their decision

“The jury has made their decision, the plantiff has been found guilty”.These are the words that one day I will finally hear.My dream is to become a lawyer. Therefore,in the subsequent paragraphs, the detailed definition of law ,who a lawyer is,the types of laws, the level of education required, opportunities and benefits associated, the salary , job locations and other important information regarding law as a career will be emphasized and elaborated upon.
To begin with, law is the system of rules that a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may be enforced by the imposition of penalties. Therefore, the person who enforces these laws is called a lawyer.A lawyer is a professional person authorized to practice law.Lawyers defend and persecute people for the crimes they have committed. However, from the information above,I want to become a lawyer in order to enforce laws to make the society a better place for everyone to live.
Secondly,an aspiring lawyer must enter law school and complete a Juris doctorate program. However, before applying to law school,an undergraduate degree must first be completed. After the undergraduate degree,an entrance exam is taken to prove one’s eligibility to enter Law School. In total,it takes an individual seven years to become a lawyer right after high school. Thus, four years for an undergraduate degree and three years in Law School..Students set on a career in law need to continue getting good grades at their University and Law School levels since they are taken into account by firms and chambers when considering applicants for jobs.
The trick of being a lawyer is finding a job in a type of law that is enjoyable because there are many career options available within the industry. This is also one of the reasons I want to become a lawyer who specializes in criminal justice in order to be in a position to help others with my legal knowledge which in the long run will make the society a better place to live.Lawyers may specialize in a number of areas such as bankruptcy, probate, international law, environmental law, criminal justice, labour law, corporate law, constitutional law, public law, just to mention a few. Thus, there is so much variety and there is certainly something for everyone.
For licencing and certification, prospective lawyers take licensing exams called “bar exams.” Lawyers who receive a license to practice law are “admitted to the bar.”A lawyer must be admitted to the state’s bar under rules established by the jurisdiction’s highest court. The requirements vary by state and jurisdiction. Most states require that applicants graduate from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school, pass one or more written bar exams, and be found by an admitting board to have the character to represent and advise others. Prior felony convictions, academic misconduct, and a history of substance abuse are just some factors that may disqualify an applicant from being admitted to the bar.
Furthermore, lawyers work mostly in offices and law firms while others work privately or for government agencies. However, some travel to attend meetings with clients at various locations, such as homes, hospitals,or prisons while others appear before courts. The love I have for travelling may have influenced me to choose law as a career.Lawyers may face heavy pressure during work. For example, during trials or when trying to meet deadlines.
Becoming a lawyer is far beyond getting to law school and completing a Juris doctorate program since it comes with loads and packages of responsibilities.Lawyers analyze large amount of information, determine relevant facts and propose viable solutions and also provide the best defense mechanisms and also give recommendations to their clients.Aside these responsibilities,in all professional functions and a lawyer should be diligent, competent, prompt and must possess good interpersonal relationship, research and good speaking skills among others in order to enable them carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Salaries of experienced lawyers vary widely according to the type, size and location of employers.Lawyers who own private law firms usually earn less than those who are partners with other law firms. The medium annual wage for lawyers was $119,250 in May 2017 according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS).The median annual wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. From the salaries I will be paid when I become a lawyer,I will be able to help build foundations and put in place strategic plans to help the needy and poor in society. This for me is one crucial reason I want to become a lawyer.
Lawyers often are the punchlines of many jokes;however, being a lawyer has it’s benefits and for those who work hard, the rewards of being a lawyer outweighs the cost of achieving a law degree and license to practice law.The benefits of being a lawyer include several factors such as wide selection of career options, financial rewards, mental and intellectual stimulation, exposure (introduction to new people and new environment) among others.
Aside the benefits enjoyed in the field of law, lawyers however sacrifice a lot. These include spending long hours working, missing out on family vacations, sleeping late and waking up early among others. The majority of workers work full time and many work more than forty hours per week. Thus lawyers often work additional hours conducting research and preparing and reviewing documents. Thus, lawyers are mostly not idle and are very busy people.
In conclusion, although to become a lawyer requires a higher level of education accompanied with job responsibilities and sacrifices, these will however not deter me from pursuing the dream of becoming a lawyer.Having the benefits and privileges of being a lawyer in mind,I plan to go a long way to help the less privileged in society financially and with the knowledge in law and also to enforce and maintain law and order which in the long run will make the society a better place to live .
