The final chapter is divided into two parts – Part I and Part II. The first part contains a brief summary of all the previous chapters. The second part of the chapter presents the research findings in relations to the research questions concluding observations, suggestions for the improvement of the Election Commission of India to ensure free and fair elections in the country.
The thesis has been divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is an introductory part of the whole body of the thesis. This chapter starts with the meaning and definitions of elections in the democratic countries in the world. It traces the origin of elections during the British rule in India. It also focuses on the formation of Election Commission of India under the provisions of Article 324 of the Constitution of India and highlights some changes in the administrative set up of the Election Commission of India. It discusses the statement of the problems for which remedial measures are suggested, review of literature on books, articles, reports, etc., which have direct and indirect link to the topic of the thesis, scope of the study, research questions containing the objectives of the study, methodology of data collection from the primary and secondary sources.
