Rahmani et al. have comprehensively reviewed relevant literature on the topic of providing informal care to individuals with severe mental illness. Literature reviews provide a critically important source of evidence on specific topics to identify research priorities which will establish what contribution the study will make to the body of evidence already available (Wilson et al. 2017; Smith and Noble 2016; Parahoo 2014). The literature which has been reviewed was somewhat dated with some sources dating back to 1990. As nursing research is constantly evolving it is important to remain up-to date with any new advances in the chosen topic. However this may highlight the need for further research (Oftedal et al. 2010). The aim of the study was clearly reiterated at the end of the literature review.
