1. The Era of Neglect and denial:
The Era of Neglect and denial was when the government thought children with special needs did not need to go to school and get an education . Instead they were treated differently as if they had a medical condition.

2. The Era of Special school:
With the decline of religious orders in Ireland, the situation regarding education and care of children with special needs changed. Education and many schools and institutions were taken over by the state.
These schools we recognized by the state and believed these children should be educated but not with “normal children”

3. The Era of Integration or Inclusive:
This Era began when the government introduced policies on education for children with special needs.
